PostgreSQL is an Open Source relational database with a long history. Originally developed at Berkeley for academic reasons and named Ingres, in its early life PostgreSQL formed part of the Ingres commercial database system and part of the Illustra database system (later to become part of Informix). PostgreSQL supports transactions, functions, views, foreign keys, language interfaces, and inhertance. PostgreSQL can be obtained from http://www.postgresql.org/.
